Digital Product Ideas
If you’re here, you’re likely looking for a way to earn an income online that doesn't involve shouting into a microphone or working 18-hour "hustle" days.
Digital products are one of my favorite ways to build a business because they allow you to create something once and sell it thousands of times. No inventory, no shipping, and no constant reinventing of the wheel. It’s a bit "boring," and that’s exactly why it works.
Why sell digital products?
I’m a big believer in building a business that supports your life, rather than a life that supports your business. For me, digital products were the "boring" answer to finding real balance. Here is why I love this model:
Passive Income
In a traditional job, you’re trading your limited hours for a paycheck. Digital products change that math. You put in the honest work to create a quality resource once, and it can be sold an unlimited number of times. Whether I’m on a long-haul flight, catching up on a Netflix series, or fast asleep, the systems (like Etsy) handle the delivery. It’s a way to stop "trading hours" and start building an asset.
Self Employed
Selling digital products eventually became my full-time career, but it doesn’t require "full-time" stress. There are no arbitrary 9-to-5 rules, no looming deadlines from a manager, and no one to report to but myself. I get to set my own pace and, more importantly, I only create things I’m genuinely excited about. It’s a business built on my own terms.
Earning Potential
Because there’s no physical inventory to restock, warehouse, or ship, the overhead is incredibly low. This means the profit margins stay high. There is no "ceiling" on your income—one helpful template can serve ten people or ten thousand people just as easily. It’s a scalable, steady way to build a business without the heavy overhead of a traditional storefront.
Can you earn money with digital products?
I’ve personally made over 130,000 sales by focusing on simple, functional tools like Google Sheets spreadsheets. It wasn’t an overnight explosion; it was the result of solving real problems for specific people. When you provide value, the profit follows.
If you want to earn $1,000, you don't need a miracle; you just need a plan. Look at how the numbers break down:

—> 100 x $10 Notion Dashboard

Printable planners are digital files that customers download and print themselves. They are popular because they offer an immediate solution to disorganization without the cost or wait time of shipping.
The Boring Tip: Don’t try to reinvent the wheel. The most successful planners are usually the simplest ones. Focus on high-quality typography and plenty of "white space" so people don’t waste all their printer ink.
The Boring Breakdown: Printable Planners
The Skill Level: Beginner Friendly. You don't need to be a graphic designer. You can use free, simple tools like Canva to get started today.

Canva Templates
Niche-Dependent
Beginner Friendly
$ - $$
Canva templates are pre-designed layouts that other business owners or creators can purchase, customize, and use for their own brands. Instead of selling a finished product, you are selling a head start. They are a massive hit because they save people hours of design work and keep their social media looking professional.
The Boring Tip: As Canva Templates are a beginner friendly digital product to create you will find that the market is quite crowded, so instead of making general templates focus on creating templates for a specific niche — like "Pinterest Pins for Food Bloggers" or "Listing Presentations for Real Estate Agents."

The Skill Level: Beginner Friendly. But to stand out you will need a solid eye for layout and graphic design.
The Demand: Niche-Dependent. As there is a large variety in what you can create there is also a high variety in demand.
The Market: Can be crowded for popular Canva Template categories like Social Media.
The Money: $-$$. Simple Canva Templates, like business cards, might sell for a few dollars while bundles with Canva Website Templates can go for $20+

Printable & Digital Art
Requires Skills
High Demand
Printable and digital art are high-resolution creative assets that allow customers to instantly curate their physical spaces or enhance their own design projects. Instead of providing a finished physical piece, you are selling the versatility of a digital file. These products are a huge success because they offer a budget-friendly way for people to decorate empty walls with custom art or source professional-grade clip art to use in their own unique crafts.
The Boring Tip: Since printable & digital art is a favorite for beginners to sell, you’ll find that the marketplace is overflowing with generic styles. To stand out you’ll need to stop making "general art" and start designing for a specific interest—like "Watercolor Wildflower Clip Art for Wedding Stationery".
The Boring Breakdown: Printable & Digital Art
The Skill Level: Beginner to intermediate depending on what you want to create. Illustrators and graphic designers that can create their own designs (instead of relying on other people’s illustrations) will have an easier time standing out.
The Demand: Very high, both for printable and digital art. With new trends for both interior and graphic design there is a constant demand for new and different printable & digital art.
The Market: Crowded. This, similar to Canva Templates, are a digital product favorite so you will have to get creative.
The Money: $-$$. Prices start at a few dollars for simple clip art and wall art while more bundles with multiple clip art or bundles with multiple prints can go for $15+.
